What Is Flower Essence Shamanism?
Flower Essence Shamanism is the practice of two-way communication with the living world — using the frequency of a flower essence as a bridge between inward meditation and shamanic journey.
This is my signature work — the practice I have developed over years of clinical experience, shamanic training, and direct relationship with plants. It is the integration point of everything I teach: herbalism, flower essence therapy, and shamanic journey, woven into one living practice.
It begins in stillness. Eyes closed, attention drawn inward, into the quiet space beyond thought where the energy of a flower essence can be felt directly in the body and the heart. From there, the practice moves into shamanic journey — entering the realm where the flower's intelligence becomes a guide, a presence to meet and speak with directly. Meditation opens the inner doorway. Journey carries you through it into direct relationship with the plant.
This is not two separate practices used side by side. It is one continuous movement — meditation and journey as two phases of the same experience, with the flower essence as the thread that carries you from one into the other.
What Flower Essence Shamanism actually is
Flower Essence Shamanism combines two established practices into a single integrated method: the vibrational use of flower essences, and shamanic journey work in the tradition taught by Sandra Ingerman.
A flower essence holds the song of a specific flower — its particular frequency, character, and quality of intelligence, captured in water. In Flower Essence Shamanism, this frequency becomes the entry point into journey. The session begins with guided meditation, where participants relax the mind and feel the essence's frequency directly — in the body, in the chest, in the quality of attention it draws forward. Once that connection is established, the practitioner moves the group into shamanic journey, typically supported by drumming, where the flower becomes a living presence to meet, ask questions of, and receive guidance from.
The practice moves between two realms. In meditation, the mind settles into stillness — the space beyond thought, beyond body, where pure potential and oneness live. In journey, that stillness opens into the realm of relationship — color, story, spirit guides, direct two-way communication with the flower's intelligence. Flower Essence Shamanism uses both realms in sequence, allowing the energetic attunement of meditation to deepen and ground the relational, narrative experience of journey.
How a Flower Essence Shamanism session works
A typical session — whether in a group or individual setting — follows a consistent structure.
Attunement. The session opens with a guided meditation centered on a single flower essence. Participants close their eyes and are guided into stillness, then introduced to the frequency of the chosen flower — felt as a sensation, an emotional quality, a shift in the body. This stage can include crystal singing bowls, a chime or rattle to deepen the settling of the mind.
Journey. Once the group has attuned to the flower's frequency, the practitioner moves them into shamanic journey — typically through drumming, either live or recorded. In this state, participants meet the flower directly. Not as an idea or a concept, but as a presence to interact with — asking questions, receiving images, sensations, or words, and entering into genuine two-way communication with the plant's intelligence.
Integration and sharing. When the journey concludes, participants return to ordinary awareness and share what arose. A common pattern consistently emerges — a thread of wisdom, a teaching, a narrative that the flower brings forward across the group, even though each person's individual journey was their own. This shared narrative becomes part of the practice's living record, often returned to and built upon in future sessions with that same flower.
Embodiment. Participants open their eyes in what is best described as loving awareness — carrying the relationship formed in journey back into waking life. The practice does not end when the session ends. The relationship with the flower continues.
Flower Essence Shamanism in practice — individual and group settings
Flower Essence Shamanism is practiced both individually and in groups, with each format offering something distinct.
In a group setting, the shared journey produces a collective narrative — a wisdom that arises not from any one person but from the group's combined relationship with the flower in that session. This collective dimension is one of the most consistently surprising aspects of the practice: the same flower, met by different people in the same session, tends to bring forward a unified thread of teaching that speaks to the group as a whole, even as it also speaks precisely to each individual's specific need.
In an individual setting, the practice allows for a depth of relationship with a single flower over multiple sessions — returning to the same plant again and again, building a sustained, evolving two-way relationship the way you might build a friendship over years.
Both formats rest on the same foundation: meditation as the entry into stillness, journey as the entry into relationship, and the flower essence as the bridge between them.
What makes this different from flower essence therapy or shamanic journey alone
Flower essence therapy, practiced on its own, typically involves taking a custom-blended essence over several weeks, allowing its frequency to work gradually in daily life. Shamanic journey, practiced on its own, typically uses drumming and intention to enter non-ordinary reality and meet spirit guides, power animals, or other allies.
Flower Essence Shamanism brings these two practices into direct relationship with each other in a single session. The essence is not simply taken and left to work in the background — it becomes the specific frequency that initiates and shapes the journey itself. And the journey is not undirected — it is anchored in relationship with one particular flower, met first in meditation and then engaged with directly in the journey state.
This integration produces an experience distinct from either practice alone: a sustained, embodied, two-way conversation with a single plant intelligence, moving fluidly between inner stillness and active relationship.
Who Flower Essence Shamanism is for
Flower Essence Shamanism is available to everyone. It requires no prior experience with meditation, journey work, or flower essences — only the willingness to be still, to feel, and to trust what arises.
The practice is particularly suited to those who already feel a pull toward nature and the living world but have not yet had a structured way to deepen that relationship. It is equally suited to those with existing meditation or shamanic practice who are seeking to bring plant relationship more directly into that practice.
This is a practice, not a course to complete or a problem to solve. Participants return to it the way they might return to a yoga class — for the experience itself, for the relationship it builds and deepens over time, session after session.
For those who feel called to carry this work forward — to bring Flower Essence Shamanism to their own communities — a facilitator training path is in development, training practitioners to hold this practice to the same standard, in the same lineage, that I bring to every session. This is how Flower Essence Shamanism grows beyond what any one person can offer alone.
Flower Essence Shamanism on The Shift Network
In September 2026, I am co-leading a live global class on Flower Essence Shamanism with Sandra Ingerman on The Shift Network — bringing this practice to a global audience alongside the teacher whose lineage shaped it. This is the first time Flower Essence Shamanism will be taught at this scale, and it marks the practice stepping fully into the world.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Flower Essence Shamanism and a regular flower essence consultation?
In a flower essence consultation, a practitioner selects a custom blend of essences for a client to take daily over several weeks, addressing a specific emotional or energetic pattern. In Flower Essence Shamanism, the relationship with a flower essence is experienced directly and immediately, in real time, through guided meditation and shamanic journey. A consultation offers the support of the essence's frequency working gradually in daily life. Flower Essence Shamanism offers direct, conscious, two-way communication with that same frequency in the moment.
Do I need prior experience with meditation or shamanic journey to participate?
No prior experience is required. The practice is structured to guide participants step by step — first into meditative stillness, then into journey — with clear instruction at each stage. Many people who have never meditated or journeyed before find the structure of the session makes both stages accessible from the first session.
What happens during the shamanic journey portion of the practice?
Once the group has attuned to a flower's frequency through meditation, drumming guides participants into a journey state — a focused, receptive state of consciousness in which the flower becomes a presence to interact with directly. Participants may receive images, sensations, words, or a felt sense of communication. Each person's journey is unique, though a shared thread of teaching often emerges across the group when the session concludes.
Can Flower Essence Shamanism be practiced with any flower essence?
Yes. Any flower essence can become the focus of a Flower Essence Shamanism session. Different essences bring forward different qualities of teaching and relationship — some essences are particularly suited to grief, others to transition, others to self-trust or vitality. Over time, working with a range of flowers builds a broad relationship with the living world's intelligence, while returning to a single flower repeatedly builds a deep, specific relationship with that one plant.
Is Flower Essence Shamanism a spiritual practice or a therapeutic one?
Flower Essence Shamanism is both, in the sense that it does not separate the two. The practice works with the energetic and spiritual dimension of experience directly — frequency, presence, relationship with the living world — and this work consistently produces effects that are felt as deeply supportive, grounding, and clarifying in ordinary life. It is not positioned as a treatment for a specific condition, but as a practice of relationship and presence that tends to bring clarity, calm, and connection as natural outcomes.
Can I train to become a Flower Essence Shamanism facilitator?
A facilitator training path is in development for those called to carry this practice forward into their own communities. The training is built on direct experience with Flower Essence Shamanism as a participant first — the calling to facilitate tends to clarify naturally through that depth of practice. Interest registration is open for those who feel drawn to this path.
